Steven Universe - Singing Steven Universe - Singing

Rated 3 / 5 stars

It's very pretty and easy on the eyes. The only thing is, there's really no animation to be seen. Steven's head is rocking but that's about it. I would have loved even a walk cycle, anything, but as it is, it's a bit too stiff to be really "be" anything yet. However, I'm seeing this is the first animation you've submitted in 2 years. I'm hoping this is just the beginning, and you'll continue to make beautiful cartoons. I love the backgrounds. Can I ask how you made them? All in all, nice work, but there's room for improvement.

ZeTrystan responds:

Actually, I would have sent that animation in the "Art" category if I could, but swf files are not accepted. :(
The backgrounds are based on the ones of the show, so I just tried my best on Photoshop to make something that looked like them. Nothing really complicated here, actually!
Anyway, thanks for your comment! ;)

That was pretty good in terms of animation. It reminded me of a mix of Rocko's Modern Life and Invader Zim (a good combo). What I would recommend is maybe making the audio louder, so it's easier to hear. Also, the ending joke is kinda weak. It was a great setup but the payoff wasn't so great. It's a great cartoon though. Props.

Johnopotamus responds:

Thank you for the review!
I am working on mixing the audio so hopefully it will improve next animation. Same goes with the writing haha.

This is pretty neat :). I'm digging the smoke animation that comes out of the rocket launcher. The backgrounds a little wierd and doesn't quite fit the animation. Maybe if it wasn't so blurry? Anyway, it's a nice start and I think this style is fun to watch.

Dude, your technique is astounding. Really dig the photoshop animation. It definitely has a different feel and I love it all the more for it. Only reason I'm taking off half a star is because I didn't really like the voice work towards the end. But it doesn't detract from the overall animation. Again, nice work man.

Amazing work. My favorites though were SafePlagiarism (i really love the whole handheld camera aspect to it, as if you're watching it as it's happening) and test-object (love the character). The rest are pretty okay too.

This made me laugh a bit, especially the beginning. I really liked the
"are you even listening?"
"Who are you?"

However, the art was kinda sketchy. Some times it wasn't too clear what was meant to be on screen. On the whole, I give it 3 stars for writing and creativity. The plants section was pretty funny. However, clean up your art a bit.

sweetcommando responds:

do you mean make the outlines less rough? yeah, I'll try that next time.

The animation was a little rough, but you DID manage to get a laugh out of me with the picture of the toast in the car crash on the news. Not many videos get me to even crack a smile, so well done on your part. Haha. I understand this is your first animation, but I have a feeling if you can improve the animation, while keeping the funniness, you could turn out something really special. Keep at it!

Very nice. The story was well told and it was fun to watch. Nicely detailed and overall, well done. Make more!

That was interesting. The grayish filter eventually turning into a green meadow was very cool. However, there seems to be very little actual animation here. It's visually pleasing and looks cool, yes, but there's no substance. I recommend atleast doing some frame by frame work, or give something life. Best of luck to you. Don't give up!

Interesting...

It was okay. The actions were nice, but you need to work on making the smoothest line possible between frames. You need to work on walk cycles also. Despite all this, I really liked the backgrounds and thought they worked well within the movie.

BoomBuster responds:

thanks for the comment, the walk cycle IS sloppy for me too. i was trying to make a good walking animation. i was thinking that it wasn't as good as the other animations because it was my second one
